Paediatric Continence and Pelvic Health
Most children will have gained bowel and bladder control by the age of 4. Many children can experience bladder and bowel dysfunction, leading to them feeling embarrassed and anxious. We recognise this can be very stressful for the child and their family.
Our pelvic floor physiotherapists with additional training in paediatric pelvic floor conditions will work with you and your child to help achieve your goals. Our aim is to create a safe and comfortable environment, providing non-invasive treatment to improve bowel and bladder control. This includes collaboration with other healthcare professionals involved in your child’s care as part of a multidisciplinary approach. Our physiotherapy team can help your child with:
-
Day time wetting
-
Bed wetting
-
Urgency
-
Urinary frequency
-
Overactive bladder
-
Constipation
-
Soiling
-
Toilet training
Our experienced pelvic floor physiotherapists will listen to your child’s and family concerns, explaining all assessment and management options. Management may include:

-
Pelvic floor education
-
Bladder and bowel training/scheduling
-
Behavioural modifications
-
Constipation management
-
Biofeedback
If you are unsure whether your child will benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy, give our team a call and a paediatric pelvic floor physiotherapist can discuss this with you.
Plagiocephaly, Torticollis, and Positional Talipes
Physiotherapists play a vital role in the treatment of many paediatric conditions. Origin Physiotherapy offers a range of paediatric services, including treatment for conditions in babies under 12 months of age including:
-
Head preferences
-
Positional plagiocephaly (head flattening)
-
Torticollis (neck tightness); and
-
Positional talipes (foot deformities)
Often children will present with one of more of these conditions and it is important that your baby sees a physiotherapist as early as possible. Our physiotherapists will conduct a thorough assessment of your baby, providing you with a diagnosis and management plan.
